👉How To Analyze a Poem

1.Beginning
- simply summarize the main topic discussed in the poem
- including the speaker, the object, maybe even the theme

2. Diction and Figure of speech, structure and *rhyme scheme
- both the two writing techniques are used for:
a. imply an attitude
b. strengthen an emotion
c. make contrast or compare
d. serve for bringing out the theme
e. indicate the speaker’s tone
f. have nothing precisely to do with the meaning but just a writing style
- copy the excerpt down and analyze the technique specifically

3. Imagery, contrasts and tone
- don’t mix up with those up there⬆️
- some of these techniques can directly show the theme
- sometimes don’t need to see the poem as a whole, separated parts can have different meanings

4. Symbols and theme
- could be general
- may mention some words like “cosmopolitan theme”, ”general pursuit”,etc.

*Give enough examples and try to analyze deeply.
*Make discoveries subtle! Consider each WORD with more sublime idea.
*Don’t be afraid of using a example repetitively because that means deliberate contemplation!
*Try to cite excerpts in a natural way, make them blend in the discussion.


👉How To Analyze a Prose

1. Beginning
- simply discuss the narrator’s style
- answer the question in the prompt

2. ~ 4.
…actually the same things as writing an analysis for poems.
BUT the goal here is to find evidence that can specify the ANSWER for the prompt (if you have one)
AND try to CONNECT the answer to the theme narrator wants to achieve.

5. Needs a simple conclusion
