    本节目选自YouTube播客频道Anglophenia的作品How To Swear Like A Brit。

    第二个词是bollocks。这个词据说是盎格鲁-撒克逊语ballacks的现代版,意思是蛋蛋。

    这个词用法很多变。
    可以表示『该死』;
    可以表示『扯淡』;
    还可以表示『太厉害了』(the bollocks);
    还有『滚开』(bollocking)。
    当然还有表示『牛X』的意思,the dog’s bollocks。

    看到这里是不是觉得中英两国还是心灵相通的,表示特别厉害都用到了动物的那里。

    这个词这么用的原因有可能是因为it sticks out like dog’s bollocks(像狗的XX一样明显、突出),当然也有可能只是因为狗对自己的XX异常喜爱。

    My favourite swear word is bollocks,

    which is the modern version of the Anglo-Saxon word ballacks,

    which had the same meaning.

    'Bollocks' is a very versatile word, it can be used as something goes wrong.

    I've run out of milk, bollocks!

    It can be used to suggest that somebody might be telling a lie.

    Um, we've run out of milk. Bollocks, I can see you hiding it behind your back!

    It can also mean that something is amazing.

    Mm-mm. This milk is so tasty, it's the bollocks!

    And to give someone a bollocking is to tell them off.

    I got a rad bollocking from me mum for drinking all the milk.

    But if something is the best of the best, it's the dog's bollocks,

    which is why now I feel even more guilty by getting Snowy neutered.

    The origins of this phrase are rather vague.

    Although my favourite theory suggests that it comes from the phrase

    'it sticks out like the dog's bollocks',

    means something which is obvious and therefore clearly stands out from the rest.

    Or in my humble opinion, it could just boil down to the shear enthusiasm a dog has for its own bollocks.
